All you need to know about our exciting weekly golf contests

PickGuru runs weekly golf games across the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

These games are known as category picks and are really easy to play.

PickGuru is planning on releasing new game formats soon, and they will be added to this page once launched inside the app.

What is a category picks game?

Each week, PickGuru will select a number of golfers from a tournament and place them into categories. Each category contains four or more golfers.

Categories will all be named, such as “Big Hitters”, “Major Winners” and so forth.

Simply, you need to pick one golfer from each of the categories available to form your entry into the game. For example, if there are eight categories to choose from, your entry will therefore be made up of eight golfers (one from each category).

For both the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, we offer Birdie (£10 buy-in) and Par (£2) games for you to enter every week, although these price points may change over time to accommodate lower or higher entry fees.

How does the scoring work?

Points are based on the combined leaderboard positions of your picks, and the entry with the lowest overall score will be crowned the winner.

Let’s try and put that into an example:

You may have picked Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Alex Noren, Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood, Abraham Ancer, Sungjae Im and Martin Kaymer from the eight categories available as your chosen golfers.

At any given moment during the tournament, we calculate their live positions in the tournament leaderboard and add them all together.

This total represents your entry’s score. Of course, with leaderboard positions, it’s better to be lower than higher – so the lowest total score in the game will be declared the winner.

Your entry might look something like this:

GolferPosition (in leaderboard)
Jordan Spieth5
Brooks Koepka17
Alex Noren17
Padraig Harrington109
Lee Westwood50
Abraham Ancer8
Sungjae Im78
Martin Kaymer32
Total316 points

In this example, 316 is your entry’s score and will be used to rank your entry against other entries in the game’s leaderboard, which updates on a live basis – making for an exciting watch as the putts are sunk on each hole!

What can I win?

There are cash prizes available each week for the top-performing entries, which will grow depending on the number of entries that are received. Generally, the top 10% scoring entries will win a prize, but this is subject to change.

You can also create your own mini-leagues (for free or for real money), and invite your friends to play in your own dedicated space. The payouts work in exactly the same way as the public leagues.
